Nifty above 10,250 mark; Tata Motors, Jet Airways stocks gain

Equity benchmarks were trading higher led by Tata Motors, Eicher and Yes Bank. However, the gains were capped, as like HPCL, UPL and BPCL faced selling pressure.

At 10:40 AM, the BSE Sensex was trading at 33,485, up 114 points, while the Nifty50 index was trading at 10,267, up 22 points.

The BSE Midcap and the BSE Smallcap indices were up 0.65% and 1.04%, respectively.

Tata Motors stock rallied more than 4% after Jaguar Land Rover's March US sales increased 10.2% to 14,232 units compared to 12,918 units sold in year-ago.

Volatility index India VIX inched up 0.24% to 15.2225.

Tata Motors (+4.3%), Eicher (+2.1%), Maruti (+1%), Reliance Ind (+0.84%) and Hero MotoCorp (+0.84%) were the top gainers on Nifty50.

Hindalco (-1.2%), HPCL (-1%), UPL (-0.99%), Coal India (-0.99%) and Bharti Airtel (-0.88%) and were the top losers in today’s trade.

Out of 2,017 stocks traded on the NSE, 1,213 advanced, 368 declined and 438 remained unchanged today.

A total of 18 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while 13 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.

Asian indices opened mildly positive after seeing strength in yesterday's pull back. Most investors would await China reaction on tariffs proposed by President Trump on fresh new items for around US$50bn. The rhetoric is seeing huge sentimental negative with stocks under pressure globally.
